Why Buy Local and Organic?

Help the environment

Buying locally grown food - which hasn't been flown hundreds of miles to reach your plate - is one of the best ways you can help to reduce your impact on our climate.

An organic production system works at its best with a mix of livestock and crops forming a self-contained unit.  Natural fertiliser emerges from the rear of the animals.  These same animals are then fed on feed and crops grown on the farm.

The animals

Animals are good for the organic farm and pretty good for the dinner plate. There are a number of dimensions to the rearing of organic meat animals:

Organic farms have to take these into account when rearing livestock and it occurs that the world would be a better place if they were also consistently applied to humans in every country on earth.

Other standards required for organic meat production prescribe low densities of animals, no growth promoters and no high protein feeds.  The downside of all this is naturally that the meat costs more.

If this is a genuine concern to you try reversing the welfare rights above and ask yourself if it's worth it?
